Arrow IMAGE Patricia Senn Breivik

Dr. Patricia Senn Breivik is dean of university libraries at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. From 1990 to 1995, she was the associate vice president for information resources at Towson State University in Towson, Maryland. Her previous positions include director of the Auraria Library and professor at the University of Colorado in Denver, Colorado; special assistant to the president of the University of Colorado; visiting professor at Columbia University; and American Council on Education (ACE) fellow in academic administration at the University of Wisconsin. Breivik has taught numerous courses and seminars in graduate library programs on academic and research libraries, library administration, fund raising, library instruction, school library media centers, and introduction to librarianship. She has served on several literacy boards including the Western Interstate Commsion for Higher Education and was a planner and presenter at the 1991 Commsion on Higher Education - The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. She is a member of the American Association for Higher Education, the American Council on Education, the American Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries, and many state library associations. She also was a member of the planning committee for the Illinois Pre-White House Conference on Libraries and Information Services from 1976 to 1978.

Breivik has edited, authored, and coauthored several papers, articles, book chapters, and monographs, including Information Literacy: Educating Children for the 21st Century with J. Senn (1994), and Information Literacy: Revolution in the Library with E. Gordon Gee (1989). Her numerous awards include the Alumni Achievement Award from Pratt Institute, the Rotary Club of Timonium Service Above Self Award, the G.K. Hall Library Literature Award, and the American Council on Education Fellows Program Service Award. Breivik holds a D.L.S. from the Columbia University School of Library Service, an M.L.S. from Pratt Institute Graduate School of Library & Information Science in Brooklyn, New York, and a B.A. from Brooklyn College.
