Description
Founded in 1916, NAWE: Advancing Women in Higher Education is
a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement
of women in higher education and related fields. The mission
of NAWE is to address issues in higher education, with particular
attention to the interests, scholarship, and advancement of women
educators and students. In a supportive, diverse organizational
environment for educators from a broad range of specialties, NAWE
develops leaders for today and tomorrow. NAWE membership includes
administrators, faculty and students from all sectors, plus leaders
from associations, business, and government agencies. Programs
and services include leadership development training for entry
to mid-level women; national, regional, and state professional
conferences; an annual national conference for college women student
leaders; graduate research awards; employment information services;
and liaison with U.S. government agencies, other educational associations
and women's organizations. NAWE publishes Initiatives,
its quarterly, award-winning journal; About Women on Campus,
a quarterly news and placement publication; NAWE News,
the NAWE member newsletter; and an annual directory of members.
In 1996, NAWE released The Chilly Classroom Climate: A Guide
to Improve the Education of Women, co-authored by NAWE Senior
Scholar-in-Residence, Dr. Bernice Resnick Sandler.
