The Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) is dedicated to strengthening the performance of public and private higher education. It advances the practice of voluntary trusteeship that has distinguished American higher education for more than 350 years. By serving as a continuing education resource to trustees and boards and by contributing to effective working relationships between boards and chief executives, AGB seeks to strengthen the governance of its member institutions. AGB recognizes its leadership responsibilities to member institutions and to a diverse system of higher education unique in the world, in major part because of its reliance on citizen rather than direct government control. AGB works with its members to ensure that higher education remains an effective national asset.
