Description
The American College Personnel Association (ACPA) is a society of college and university student affairs professionals with between 6,500 and 7,000 individual members and over 100 institutional members. Established in 1924, ACPA's overall mission is to serve college and university student affairs educators and administrators by providing professional development programs, publications, and services in order to enhance their effectiveness and commitment to the development of students in post-secondary education. It is governed by a member-elected executive council and supported by 5 core councils, 16 functional commissions, 5 constituency-based standing committees, and 32 chartered state divisions. ACPA conducts an annual convention and placement center in March of each year and sponsors numerous teleconferences, workshops, and specialty conferences. ACPA also produces a refereed journal, "The Journal of College Student Development", a practioner-oriented magazine, "About Campus", 21 quarterly newsletters, and many professional publications emphasizing basic theoretical and applied knowledge with regard to college student characteristics, the nature of student experiences and learning, and personal development outcomes associated with college life.
