Carlisle Foundation Grants

The foundation prefers to support proposals that are new, innovative, and/or demonstrate promise as models that might be replicated in other sites. In many instances, grants act as venture capital or seed money through which the applicant organization can demonstrate a new concept or expand its own capacity to deliver services. Although the foundation reviews a wide range of proposals, several areas receive high priority, including substance abuse, domestic and community violence, homelessness/housing, economic development, and services for children, youth, and families. The foundation prefers to make grants for restricted project support rather than general operating support. Applicant organizations should submit a one-page concept paper accompanied by a copy of the 501(c)3 determination letter. There is no time line or deadline for concept letters.

Restrictions: Requests for capital support are rarely considered; requests for support of endowments are never considered. The foundation does not usually support programs with a primary focus on day care, disabilities, education, health services, legal services, mental retardation, or older adults. The foundation also does not provide direct support for individuals.

Requirements: New England 501(c)3 organizations are eligible. Applicant organizations should submit a one-page concept paper accompanied by a copy of the 501(c)3 determination letter.

Amount of Grant: $40,000 maximum, typically $18,000-$20,000
